Mimi entered her apartment for the first time in weeks. Everything had been moved out when she'd left. She'd have to start over, she knew. And not only with her furniture but with Roger as well.
Roger...
She was so glad to have him back in her life. With him she felt like she could do anything. Without him... she fell apart.
They may not have long lives ahead of them but she wanted to spend hers with him.

Roger slowly hopped down the fire escape to Mimi's window. He didn't want to scare her by just jumping in, though he thought she'd probably be more flattered than frightened. He knocked on the window with a small smile.

Mimi smiled and went to the window. She unlatched her window and opened it.
"Hey," she said. She motioned with her hand for him to come into her empty apartment. "Miss me?"

Roger nodded once, quickly. He stepped into the room and looked around, letting out a low whistle.
"Looks like we're gonna have some work to do," he commented, using his head to indicate her lack of furniture.

"We?" Mimi asked with a smile she couldn't hide.
She'd gotten rid of her stuff so fast that she wasn't even sure where half of it had gone to. She breifly wondered how much of that was due to her 'sickness' at the time before turning her mind back to the matter at hand.

Roger blushed a little and shrugged to try and cover it up as nonchalance.
"Any idea where any of this sh*t ended up?" He asked, trying to deflect her implied question. "I mean, it's not like we've got a ton of extra cash."

Mimi shook her head negatively.
"Not really," she replied. "My bed and the refrigerator are still here. I think the guy below me might have a chair of mine but I'm not sure."
She walked over to the window, arms crossed to protect herself against the cold. It was dark outside already, winter nights coming early. It was almost exactly a year ago when she and Roger had first gotten together at the Life Cafe and they were getting another chance.

Roger noticed her crossing her arms against the cold and pulled his leather jacket off to lay around her shoulders. He gently wrapped her in it from behind, encircling her with his arms for added warmth. Then his mind jumped back to the problem at hand. How the hell were they going to be able to re-furnish an apartment?

Mimi leaned back into his arms with a smile. She turned her head to look up at him and it became obvious to her that he was deep in thought. He wanted to solve her problem for her, she knew, but she couldn't let him do that. Roger and Mark always seemed to have a hard enough time paying for AZT and food.
"Don't worry about it," Mimi said as she gave him her best smile.

Roger smirked slightly.
"Nice try," he replied. "But I can't just forget all the world's problems because of one pretty smile."

Mimi turned in his arms so that she could set her hands on his shoulders.
"I'm not asking you to forget all the world's problems, just mine," she stated. "Besides, it's not really a problem. If I have some sort of a sudden urge to sit on a couch, I'll just climb the fire escape and sit on yours."
She said the last part with a teasing smile, trying to get him to lighten up a bit.

A chuckle escaped Roger's throat before he could stop it. He shook his head lightly and teased, "You'd like that, would you?"

"Yes, tough guy, I would," Mimi replied with a sly smile. She leaned up and pressed her lips against his softly.

Roger smiled against her lips momentarily before kissing her back.

When they had parted, she rested her head on Roger's shoulder.
"I love you," Mimi told him, her voice soft. She had never said it that casually before. It was usually just an understanding between them. But she did love him and it felt good to be able to tell him when they weren't fighting and niether of them was dying.
