"I missed you," Mimi stated softly.
She had missed him a lot, actually. Much more than she cared to admit, even to herself. When he'd first left she'd felt like her heart had been ripped out. If she'd known that he was back, she would have come back much earlier.

Roger smiled slightly at the sentiment. She had missed him. He'd missed her too, he knew; he'd seen her everywhere when he'd been in Santa Fe. Roger just hadn't had the guts to say so. He'd thought, maybe, she'd think him kind of sappy. But he had no problem returning the sentiment.
"I missed you too," he murmured. "I was going crazy in Santa Fe."

Roger rolled onto his side, his head resting on his palm so he could watch her, as he formulated his answer.
"There were a million reasons," he finally said. "Mostly it was that everything I'd gone there to get away from, all the stuff I was running from, it all followed me there. And there, with all of it and none of you guys, it was way f*cking worse."

Mimi smiled at his answer. She moved over until she was curled against his body. It made her feel safer some how just to be near him. It was like the whole world could stop just because she was with him.

Roger wrapped his arms around her small frame. He liked to hold her, to touch her like this. One hand slid down her back, gently caressing the soft skin there.

"What are you thinking about?" Mimi asked in a soft tone. She wasn't sure what she was thinking about or if she'd even been thinking but she hoped he had. She didn't like silence much.

"I like to touch you," Roger replied with a self-deprecating smile. It implied a lack of control, to say something like that, he knew. But it was true.
