Maureen slumped her chair, pouting down at her food. Then her face lit up with a smile as she formed a different plan to take advantage of the situation.
"Can I borrow your credit card, then?" she asked innocently, loud enough for Joanne to hear. "I just need some new things...like...soap."

Joanne finished getting dressed and came back into the kitchen.
"Soap... Right..." she replied, crossing her arms. "I'm not that guible, you know."
She shook her head and went to grab her breifcase.

Maureen cursed under her breath. "Fine. Then I'll just sit here all day on the couch. Watching Payperview. And eating chocolate. And getting fat. So fat that you'll need a crane to take me places."

Joanne laughed to herself at that image.
She walked over and kissed Maureen on the cheek.
"At least I'll always know where you are."
She turned to walk out the door.

Maureen pouted at the door as Joanne left. She finished off her breakfast and dragged herself off to the bathroom to take a shower.

A few hours later, Joanne knocked on the door to the apartment. She didn't usually knock at her own home but she didn't want to ruin the surprise she'd gotten Maureen: a miniture poodle.
Joanne was not usually a dog person but she had felt bad about leaving Maureen alone like that. A dog would keep her company. That and it was too little to be too much trouble.

Maureen didn't budge from her position on the couch. She was covered with this blankets on the kick out recliner, plastered in front of the TV.
"I can't get up!" She yelled sarcastically. "Better call the crane people!"

"Honeybear, open the door," Joanne pleaded, not want to put the small dog down and get her keys. The little animal barked.

"Fine!"
Maureen fought through the blankets and empty wrappers filling the couch and went to unlock the door. She swung the door open and gasped at what stood before her. "Pookie!"

Joanne smiled at the look on her girlfriend's face.
"Do you like her?" she asked, holding out the black poodle for Maureen to take.

"She's adorable!" Maureen squealed as she took the little dog from Joanne.
"I thought you didn't like dogs?"

"I don't," Joanne replied, brushing past Mauren to get into the apartment. "But I love you more than I don't like dogs. Besides, you made me feel guilty this morning."

"I knew it would pay off..." Maureen smirked.
She held the dog up in the air and baby talked to her. "You're so cute! Yes you are! What should we name you?"

"Nuh uh, not 'we'. That is your dog, Maureen," Joanne said, putting down her breifcase.
She went to the fridge to get out what she was going to cook for dinner. Finding not much left, she frowned. She looked around and saw that Maureen had wrappers all around her chair in the living room.

"Fine. My dog. What should I name my dog?"
Maureen pondered for a while. "How bout Emmie. I like that name. Short for Emily. I like that name too. How do you like the name Emmie?"
