Joanne went over to the chair and started picking up wrappers. A lot of wrappers.
"Emmie, sure," she replied, nodding as she cleaned. "There is no way you're going to be able to fit into those leather pants now, you know."

Maureen went from giggling at Emmie's hyperactive antics to staring at Joanne in horror.
"Oh my God! We need to hit the gym. Like, now."

Joanne chuckled and went over to Maureen, dropping the wrappers. She put her arms around her grieldfriend from behind.
"Baby, I'm kidding," she said, her voice laced with amusement. "I do have a sense of humor, believe it or not."

"No, seriously. I think those last few Twinkies really dropped down to my thighs..."
Maureen forgot all about her new dog as she turned various ways to examine herself. She pinched her skin. "Was that there before?"

"You're as beautiful as the day I met you," Joanne informed her, shaking her head. She gently took 'Emmie' from Maureen and set the dog on the floor.

"Okay, good. Maybe I should go try those pants on just in case..."
Maureen watched as Emmie sniffed around the place, getting comfortable in her new home.

"Why do I bother?" Joanne asked, shaking her head and moving to sit on the couch.

"Because you love me."
Maureen grinned and turned her attention back to Emmie. "We're gonna have to go buy her all kinds of stuff. Like toys and food and a bed and..." she gasped. "Where she going to do her 'business'?"

"You'll have to take her outside," Joanne replied as if it were obvious. Which to her it was but reality didn't always apply to Maureen.

Maureen made a face. "I don't have to...pick it up...do I?"

"I don't know, Maureen," Joanne replied. "I've never had a dog. I know they moake those shovels so that people don't have to touch dog poop."

"But that's gross. Why can't they just bury it like cats do?"
Maureen looked over at Emmie with a disgusted face, starting to rethink the whole thing. But then Emmie began chasing her tail with a determined look on her face, and Maureen squealed with delight, picking the dog up. "You're so cute!"

Joanne chuckled at Maureen's reaction to the dog's behavior. She patted the spot next to her.
"Come sit with me," she requested.

Maureen carried the dog over to the couch and happily plopped next to Joanne. She began playing with Emmie's fluffy ears, making cooing noises.
"You're so pretty, yes you are. I'm your mommy now, and I'll take good care of you. I promise."

Joanne couldn't help but smile at Maureen's cooing at the dog. She pulled Maureen against her, wrapping her arms around her waist.
"You as someone's mommy..." she teased, shaking her head. "Scary."
